Re: major problem

On the water pump I have had the impellor come loose on the shaft. It would get hot in stop and go but cool off at speed. You might keep an eye on the overfolw bottle. If it need water every couple of days you have a cracked head or gaskit.

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca. 4.3L V6

Just picked up the new front end. It is off of a 2000 Nissan Xterra. The suspension kit is ordered and should have it by May. I was able to order it direct from the builder. They are meeting a group of Vorra Racers and handing it off to them then it will find it's way to me. No shipping charge :) As...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca. 4.3L V6

Update. Well the machine shop, Rex Hutchison Racing Engines should start the block work next week. The block is good but there was one little crack in one of the Vortek heads. I’ll try to get some pictures of the work. But in the mean time I decided to go ahead and buy a front-end kit instead of bui...

Re: steering stops

You can adjust them. But they need to be the main hard point when turning. Otherwise all the force when turning hard. (like when doing a "U" turn) If you hit a curb you can snap the steering box or rip it off the frame. You can adjust them just make sure there is clearance for the tires, c...

Re: stadium/trophy styled truck

Thats what I'm in the process of building i just have it in the wrong place. Look under Newbies D-50 build out Sacramento. It is going to cost me around $20,000.00 to build it. But I have the equiptment to build the cage. Other wise you can pick up a roller for around 54K. Here are a couple of links...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca. 4.3L V6

Well I took the vortec heads over to Rex Hutchison Machine. There are 2 major changes between the Vortec and non-vortec heads. One is the intake mounting. The other is in the intake it’s self. The pictures below show the two set of heads I have. The NON-vortec head the intake airflow is directed in ...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca. 4.3L V6

Well I picked up the crank from the machine shop today. It was tanked and checked for cranks. It looks to be stock. I brought it home and de-burred it tonight. It took about 2 hours. It’s not a 32 Lbs crank but it is cleaner then just a cast. The machine shop has another 4.3L V6 there right now. It ...

Re: leaf springs

If you have Bets Spring make you a spring pack they won't flatten out. I think you have only 2 spring in the pack in a stock configuration. Just have them add in a 3rd leaf. I have three in mine and she rides tight. I pull a trailer and can over load the truck with out hardly thinking about it. You ...

Re: leaf springs

There is a local Company, here in Sacramento. They have locations around California. You are only a short drive away if you are in Reno. Betts Spring Co. http://www.bettsspring.com/index.php They made the front springs for my truck and built the spring pack for the rear. They can make any thing you ...

If you had a choice would you buy a new car or build it?

Has any body seen this car? You buy and build it at one of the shops around the country. They run around $50,000 thats the same price as a new Ford F250. But it is way cooler. http://www.local-motors.com/buy.php?p=1 http://www.local-motors.com/assets/buyPage_pic450x255.jpg I talked to Local Motors t...

Re: leaf springs

Now when you say "bouncy" do you mean stiff? All that can go wrong on a leaf spring is they break from over loading or they flatten out over time. That makes them a little softer. There is not much you can do with out changing springs. You can always take out one leaf. That will give you a...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca.

Well the cab is now cleaned up and ready to start on the fabrication. I found a nice sharp air hammer bit trimmed the cab real easy. I just took my time and worked on the inside of a bend next to the line of spot welds or with a steel backer and she cut like butter. I cut out the inside of the doors...

Re: hard start after a few days

Well change out that sensor if it's not too pricy. Pull the battery cable and reset the computer. Unless you have another way. I'm unshure on the procedure for the reset. It's possable that the tempture sensor is faulty. When an engine is cold it needs more fuel. I don't know if you have a cold star...

Re: hard start after a few days

When you turn on the key it should prime the system for 3 to 5 secconds and build up pressure in the furl rail. Otherwise you would need to crank for up to 10 secconds for the pressure to build up. I think there is a relay timer that is involved it the system. But yes it should run the fuel pump whe...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca.

Well I just scored a frame from the neighbor behind me, Phil. He is a hot rod guy and has a 1932 Ford, real nice car he has put many hours in to it. I’ll get a pict up of it when I can. Well anyway he just gave me a 1996 Chevy Caprice frame it has 4 wheel disk brakes that came stock for the Californ...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca.

UPDATE. I got the yellow “parts / template” truck pulled out of the side yard. Ripped off the bed and cut it down to just the fenders. If I can’t fine fiberglass fenders I’ll build them. Any ideas where to find them??? It looks like I need to give my truck a small suspension lift of 17 inches to get...

Re: PPG Dropped the SPECTRAFLAME

There not banning the cow shit. Just how you pile it up. I know a couple of dairy farmers that had to change the way they clean out the barns and cover and line the holding ponds. Big big bucks.

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca.

Whats on it for smog? The SMOG ref here says that if you put in a newer engine you must use all the smog for the year of that engine. Including, air pump, cat, air cleaner, exhuast, fuel tank, evap, and so on. Now you can't chip the computer. On my diesel ford F350 it needs to have a Smog every year...

Re: D-50 build out. Sacramento Ca.

Over came a large hurtle today. I went to the California DMV. Now in California there is a law called AB100 It lets 500 cars per year be registered by either the year of the engine or the body type. They normally are gone on the first day of the year by around 11Am. These things are like gold. I Onc...

Re: d50 an b series

I know that the Chrystler Aries K car has the 2.6 in them that's our engine. I think Rancho still makes a body lift kit. I have seen them befor. It looks good. Other wise you can make them your self using a longer bolt and steel box tubeing. If you wanted to get fancy you could put in a center pipe ...
