i bet you it is a 98ish and your fuel injection "spider" is bad. it is the feed to all your injectors under your intake. read up on it chevy's were bad for that.
i see his high and low pressure connectors. so its not that. it ma be an oil level????? or a port where the hook up when charging for non condecables......??????like a puurge valve. but either way im unsure. is it an o ring sealed cap?

^^^^^^x2 and some fresh clean oil for the bots so when you torque them down it is a accurate reading and you dont have that cracking sound while torquing them in that will give you a false reading.

you should have some oil squirters put in too if he has the extra $$$$$$. but if it is a build on a budget,,,,,than it would be on the cheep. you giong to be able to reuse the pistons or are the shaped like eggs?
first mike, you need a cover on that receptical. :lol: . and how do the balance shaft bearings look. have you considered a bse kit and having the rotating assy balanced? not sure what your using this motor in. but it looks like 10thou should clean the bore and a polishing on the main journals. than ...
