Transmission

Transmission

Postby LSR Mike » Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:24 am

Well as the story goes, I busted my transmission at Bonneville in '09. The rebuilder replaced all the internals with new stuff. In addition, I put on a TuffPan.

www.tuffpans.com to help keep the case straight.

The rebuilder couldn't find a R5M21, and actually ordered a whole new transmission which has a different case but the same internals. I should ask him sometime what it was.

It wasn't really that dramatic. when I dropped the (what passes as a ) Pan on the Transmission on the Salt, all I found were strips of metal about an inch long and 1/16th of an inch wide. Basically stripped the teeth off. When it went, I was pulling in 5th gear (the weakest link) and Bam! with a screaming engine. I pulled it down into 4th and wound it out! when I got back to the pits, I found out there wasn't anything else left, no 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th or Reverse. The reason to have a Winch on your Trailer.

Bummer deal. Sorry you didn't make the record books. But it sounds like you are just so close you can't stop now. I want to see you make it.

Quite the Contrary, I set the record last year even with the busted Tranny. and This year I ratcheted it up from 137 to 154MPH.

And, I want another 20 MPH for next year.

Dude you are deep in the funnel. That is like all racing. The closer you get to the center the harder it is to escape the grip. Kind of like a black hole. Spectators are just on the rim looking in. Retirement just means you came out the other side.
