Help! Nobody Has Paired Port Exhaust Manifold Anymore!

My 89 mightymax 2.0 was a paired port. I had a few confusing carb problems and I was never a carb guy. Not putting the carb down, but I don't have enough knowledge about em to take it apart, let alone put it back together. I just stood by what I'm used to and went fuel injected. There are options on a dohc swap on the projectzerog swap section with using the 2.0 block or the 2.4 block. Different variations available like high revving na vs turbo variation. Keeping the motor sohc, might wanna look up lsr mike. His sohc motor is very impressive as well as record holding.

I also have a paired port race header for the 2.4 I bought before the 2,0 paired port one. It has bigger tubes on it into the collector - I will take pics of them this afternoon and post them for comparison

(i'm not sure why pics came out like this, but click on each one to see the whole picture)

I'm sure a custom header would work wonders for this platform - being lighter, more efficient, and make it easier to control temperature (with coating/wrap).

Pennyman, I would love to see the pics of the 2.4L Race Header you have... if it fits, is it something you're willing to sell?

I will post them once I find where I put them - I have been relocating my stuff due to a divorce and put them in a box in my garage. I may sell the 2.4 header, I will let you know if I do. Unfortunately, I have over 100 good sized boxes to look through, although the car parts are all in one area.

The problem with the pictures is eays to fix. It's the size of your picture it's HUGE. 2592 X 1456 pixle Go to the links section of the board, off the index or main page. In there click on the Free picture resize proghram.. Download it, then use it... Resize your pictures to no larger then 640 X 350 Pixle. If you are using DSL or dial up it would take 70 seconds per picture to show with the size they are right now.

Unfortunately for you guys I sold this Paired Port Header From Pacesetter after I switched to the Turbo setup. I'll also tell you when i got it out of the Box it was a piece of CRAP! I had the Flange re-welded around the pipes because it was so flimsy. after I first put it on and ran the engine you could see the exhaust burns on the outside if the pipes and flange. Then I had to port match it to my ports it was so off. then since it is made for the 2.6 motor, the EGR port is wrong and I had that welded shut also. Then finally, and this was my fault, I had to sand the flange back flat to seal, the welding warped the flange. Sure looked pretty when I got done.

I still have the Original Cast Iron Manifold in good shape, no cracks.

MIKE... how did the pacesetter perform once you got it modified and installed? Did you maintain or upgrade torque anywhere in the powerband? If not, do you think its worth the cost to have Buschur create one like they did for you?

The header went along with a lot of other stuff in the Red engine build. The intake was and throttle body from a Turbo Eclipse was used, I converted to a dual Coil, No distributor setup and finally dropped in a AEM EMS. It did go faster, but how much did the header contribute, dunno. Now the Buschur setup, that puts down the power.

I had a welding shop "nickel rod" the crack in the spare manifold I got from the yard - supposedly filling the crack and eliminating the leak... I haven't installed it to test it yet... I'll take pics b4 I put it on in the morning and let you know how well the fix worked. It's a temporary fix because of course when I rebuild the motor, I want performance exhaust to go with it, but I'm hoping it will eliminate this "card in the bicycle spokes" ticking I get while driving now...

p.s. - Pennyman, I still want to see the pics of the race header you have when you can find it. And I'm sorry to hear about your divorce. I wish you the best with all of that.
