Ticking or tapping.

I know I have asked a few questions with few responses. But I don't know much about the D50 so forgive me. I have developed a slight tick. It used to come and go but now seems to stay. Whats the best course to fix the problem on these trucks? I was told that my valves are not adjustable...... So what can be done to fix the problem short of rebuilding the head? its my daily driver. Its a 89 ram 50 2.0 5speed with only 98,000 miles on it. Btw its a random ticking.

The other issue with these motors are the hydralic lash adjusters - they will tick if clogged or shot. Run a quart of Rislone in place of 1 quart of oil at the next oil change. It is a super detergent additive for the oil and will clean out the crud and cure valve ticking if it is caused by sticking lifters. Have used it since the 70's with AMC 6 bangers to quiet their valvetrain. It works great with my 1980 d-50 2.6 with 122k miles.

Thanks going to try the rislone first and see if that helps. Last few times I did the oil change I used syenthic. but since I'm going to use rislone gonna go back to runnin regular 10w30

You can run Rislone with synthetic, I do.

I did change my oil used it with the Rislone. Now I gotta tell you I did gain a lil power but the ticking is there still. I'm going to try the other option mentioned above after the Holidays. I don't know what it is about my truck but it has been a good truck. Never let me down til the Timing belt jumped 2 yrs ago.

Give the Rislone some time to work its magic. Make sure your timing is set to no more than 10 D BTDC or it can ping under acceleration. Also tighten up the intake and exhaust flange bolts; a leak can make a sound like ticking.

Alright will try that today. Hopefully that shall solve my problems. Once I fix that problem then I'm going to slp the Weber Carb on. And I do think my timing is off. Gotta love that little truck. Saved me $100 from having to tow my Dodge Grand Caraavan back home yep towed my 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport home @ 1:30 Am. Had a busted altenator
