look under the hood for that rectangular chrome lookin metal tag. it says mitsubishi in big black letters..on that tag youll find some info like the engine size n such...the gear ratio should be on that tag as well. ive got a 88 with a g52b 2.0 from a 80 model with a 5 speed manual and 3.90 gears and at 70 im at about 2300-2400rpms. when im runnin 55 and 60 i get 28+ mpg depending on what highway im on

My 88 with 2.6 and 3.90 gears runs at 2500 pretty much right on the nose at 60 most days.

I'm still jetted a little lean and strangely enough, my rpm at different speeds changes with the weather. On cold days, at 45 it will be slightly above 2000, but on hot humid days, it will be almost as low as 1750. Same at 55, it will vary between 2100 and almost 2400. I get better power and gas mileage a 65 degrees and up, so it's not completely in my head either. Recently in warm weather, I just ran through an entire tank moving stuff from our house, hauling garbage and scrap metal and got 22.3mpg. In the winter, it will be down near 18 or 16 if I play in the snow a lot. One of these days I need to rejet, but don't have the time right now.

My 88 d80 w/2.6, auto and 3.55 gears turned about 2500 in o/d at 60. If its not, check the temp sensor near the throttle body. If its bad, the O/D will not engage.

Thanks for all the info. I put this engine in from a donor truck with a 5-spd. But I did find a little button on the end of the shifter and overdrive lettering had worn off. So what I had was an OD that did not shift into OD. WIred it up properly and now I am taching about 2200 at 60. Makes me feel a lot better.
