2.4l free wheeling or not?

Morning Guys, My stepbrother has a 91 max micro 2.4 jumped time appears that the belt tensioner bearing locked up becuase the coggs on the belt are fine but the outside is shredded. if the valves are bent the truck may not even be worth repairing does anyone have CONCRETE evidence to whether is a freewheeling or interference engine? ive combed the forums and have yet to find concurring answers any help would be appreciated thanks guys. -James Fitz. 84 POWER Ram 50 (short on power but still 4x4 haha)

Our engines are interferance engines. If the timing jumped, then most likely the valves may be bent. Sometimes people get lucky and the rest don't. I say pull the head off, take the cam out, and fill the intake side with wd40 and see if any is coming through the valves, then try the exhaust. Or you can pay a machine shop to check for you.

if you can get it back in time, a compression test will tell you if the valves are bent. Bring the cyl to TDC and let it sit for a while, if your gauge isn't a memory type, it will loose pressure over time if the valves are bent.
