I've towed vehicles with my 87 with the 2.6 at least 20 times, sometimes with a tow dolly, sometimes with a tow strap. It does just fine, as long as you don't try to drive it like a full sized tow truck. I've also hauled nearly 2 tons of broken concrete in the bed with no real strain. They are very capable trucks as long as you use common sense and treat it with care.
