valve cover seal leak

Hello
I own a 1984 d50 and oil seems to be leaking from the valve cover gasket in the front of the motor right by the camshaft sprocket. I am pretty sure that it is not the bearing seal. I tightened down the valve covers but it didn't seem to help. The gasket also seems to be good. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with gasket sealer? Maybe I could coat the top and bottom of the gasket and then put it on? Thanks. Any advice would be great.

what makes you think the gasket is good? I have never had to put ANY sealer on these gaskets except on top of the half moon seal at the back of the head. If you can't push your nail into the gasket, than its bad. Should be sorta soft. DO NOT OVER TORQUE THESE BOLTS! You will break the valve cover (They crack easy) only 6ft lbs of torque required. They do leak often from the cam seal BTW.

I've broke a bolt in the head before trying to remove the valve cover. Lol. I guess that cover wasn't off in a while. The g63b. Did you find the problem?

I ended up ordering a new valve cover seal. Compared it to the old one and decided that it was bad. Not that bad though. I am almost certain that it did fix the leak. Thanks for the information.

My valve cover broke so I got one from the scrap yard and I polished it and now it shines like chrome.
