so the truck has a rebuilt ecu and has power and ground to everything it should. i put a used distributor in it and it made the maintainence required light go off for a little while with the key off. but now that stays on and it wont pull the codes. i have the fsm and a haynes manual for it but neither says how to exactly pull the codes. i have the diagnostic port jumped the way it says but the cel wont flash or anything wtf is going on i dont get it. and its only getting power to the coil with the key on. and 2 of the wires that go to the dist. for the cps make a click sound when i put a test light to it. is this making sense to anyone.

The maintenance required light is for timing belt replacement. If youtake off the right block off plate under the gauge cluster, you will see a switch. If you turn the switch to the other position, that will reset that light. The check engine and maintenance required light are two different lights.

So now it stays on then the key is Off?

First off I will admit I don't know your model or the things that go wrong with them. I'm trying to get answers for the others on the board that have had the same problems. They might see somthing in your answers to my questions and a light will go on in there head and they will chime in.
4doorciv says there is a switch that will turn off the light. Do that first.
The lights should come on when cranking it's a thing most manfuctures built into there cars. So you can tell if the light is burnt out or not.
Please do all things 1 at a time if replacing parts. If you change 3 things and it works then you won't know what it was.

Please answer all questions if you can. Yes some will seem dumb and repetive but it might help.
Q 1: Has it ever run for you?????
Q 2: No spark at all from the coil when cranking corect?
Q 3: Have you checked the timming belt, cam to crank timming?
Q 4: You hade had someone go through the ECU corect?
Q 5: Have you tried to see if it will get spark by turning the key to the "ON" position and using a remote starter button, AKA screw driver. Crank the bitch over and look for spark from the coil?
Q 6: Have you gone over to a dealer and just talked with a mechanic there? Just bypass the dumb ass behind the counter and go find a guy that would know about the trucks? Pick his mind he might know a little thing we don't
Q 7: Have you gone to a You-Pull-It and stole things like the cam and crank sensor, coil, Guts from inside the distributer or a hole new one, and tried them?
Q 8: How many volts does it get to + side the coil?
Q 9: How many volts does it get to the ECU?
Q 10: Is there an alarm system on the truck?
Q 11: If so have you removed it?
Q 12 Does it have fire insurance??? Just kidding..
Please let us know. My money is on the cam or crank sensors.

Was the wire burned off or was it old and broken off?

That cas wire can be the 5 or 12v rwferance wire, the ground wire for the sensor, or the signal wire from the sensor yo the computer. A broken wire is a difference of cranking and running. How are the wires on the other unit? All there and secure?
