so i bought a 1990 3.0 mighty max and the guy said it had a bad ecu but me and my brother pulled the ecu cas apart and it didnt smell look burnt or have any leaky diodes things either. so my brother said with the yota 3.0 if the distributor goes out it creates this same problem. are these trucks the same or does anyone have an idea of what it might be?

Sounds like a bad crank or cam sensor.
The cam sensors are known for going bad on early 3.0 (6g72) engines. I only know these engines from the 3000gt/stealth world tho, so I may not have the most pertinent info for you. It is common practice on those cars to unplug the cam sensor so you can crank the engine and prime the oil pump or whatever, as it disables fuel and spark.

I have a '90 3.0 as does a mechanic friend of mine. We both have had to have the ecu's rebuilt within the past year or two. The symptom is just turning over, no start. with check engine light lit. I have not heard of cam sensor issues with the truck version. Be sure the short ground wire from below the glove box is attached to one of the lower bolts securing the ecu, I've heard it won't start without this. Can you pull a code? The OBD terminal is just to the right of the fuse box, under the dash and can be read with an analog ohmeter. You'll be happy once you get it going, they are great trucks! Let me know if I can be of any help.

I had a 92 and it showed the exact same symptoms. The ECU's are famous for going bad. I had mine rebuild through a guy on ebay (from Minnesota), and I was very happy with the results.
