yes the coil tells the tach the correct rpm to read out. Most aftermarket tachs will also have a little red arrow on the face you can slide over to your correct redline. It wont be like a rev limiter though, just a visual reminder i guess.

My old 2.0 carbed hit 115 at 5500 RPM's. I will let you know what a 2.4 can do after I get this thing running and driving good.
