I have a 1988 ram 50 with the 2.0 liter 5 speed. It runs really bad and needs a WHOLE new rebuild which isnt unheard of for a 170k mile engine. I have heard that these engines in general are Not very good pieces of equipment. I would like to put a 2.6l carbed engine in it. What all would I have to change and/or modify? I have heard the bellhousings are different sizes? is this true? what about motor mounts? I want it to be fairly simple if possible.I am new to the site so I didnt know exactly where to post. thanks for any info.

Cheaper and easier to fix what you have. For what you'd spend and what you'd get, IMO it's not worth it. Spun balance shaft bearings, cracked heads, constant adjusting of the balance shaft chain, etc. etc. etc. I put 200,000 plus on my 2.O with nothing but timing belts and spark plugs being changed. It's your choice, choose wisely.

Is there anywhere that you know of where I could get a complete rebuild for the 88 2.0?
