2.4l free wheeling or not?

Morning Guys, My stepbrother has a 91 max micro 2.4 jumped time appears that the belt tensioner bearing locked up becuase the coggs on the belt are fine but the outside is shredded. if the valves are bent the truck may not even be worth repairing does anyone have CONCRETE evidence to whether is a freewheeling or interference engine? ive combed the forums and have yet to find concurring answers any help would be appreciated thanks guys. -James Fitz. 84 POWER Ram 50 (short on power but still 4x4 haha)

I believe it is a interference engine. Correct me if i'm wrong guys.

Now, its not worth it if the body of the truck is a rust bucket. If the truck is clean..... it is well worth repairing. As fuel prices go up... these trucks will pick up value again. It makes me sick how many guys junk perfectly good trucks over an engine. What does a new car cost compared to putting an engine in.

good point sir and thanks for the advice unfortunately its my stepbros truck truck is good shape clean just lack of funds might be a good chance for me to buy it!

Yep. It's an interferance engine. Some guys get lucky and don't bend any valves, the others do and most likely there is some bent valves. What you can do is remove the head and the cam from the head and fill the intake side with wd40 and see if any drip past the valves, and repeat on the exhaust side.

thanks again for the advice my thought was to remove the valve cover put an air hose with compression guage fitting in the spark plug hole pressurize the cylinder and check for leaks that way

You mean do a cylinder leakdown test? Might as well do a compression test while your at it.
