2.4 swap starter question

Ok so i am swapping a wide block 2.4L into my montero and I have AW2 automatic. I will be using a 2.6L bellhousing and V6 lockup torque converter, I modified the 4 bolt 2.4L flexplate to fit the 6 bolt torque converter. Everything bolts together perfectly and the swap should be very simple but the 2.4 flexplate has a smaller ring gear than the 2.6 and V6 engines, do i just need to get a starter with a bigger gear possibly off of a 2.4 pickup with auto trans? or do i need to swap flexplate ring gears?

I think I'd swap flexplate ring gears. Is this the TOASTY from AZ????

I've got the 7 bolt crank 2.4L, if i had the 6 bolt version i wouldn't have a problem. Looks like i will probably be swapping the ring gear on my flexplate, shouldn't be too bad of a job I was just hoping for a starter with a bigger gear. I'll still check the 2.4 auto pickups at the junkyard just in case there is a starter that will work.

Oh yeah i'm TOASTY from Az, did you see my new montero?

Yes I did. You need to start cutting up the new montero. I'm 1986powerram50 from the wire.

I'm under the assumption the 2.4 questions for LT's rig.

you go by Spicoli on pirate too right?

This isn't for LT's truck yet, I'm think about using it in my new montero. He hasn't worked on the SAS'd 88 since he put the body on. I sas'd it all fast and he was all motivated to get it going but now he has to work on his other truck it needs tires and a new engine.

I'm still debating about the 2.4 swap since i got the 3.0 running, but i like the 2.4 better plus the one i have is a really clean rebuilt complete engine.

Yup, Spicolis my handle bout everywere cept the wire any more.

2.4 would fit in the monte bay better and be easier to work on in there. How cramped it was in the bay was one thing I hated bout my 3.5.

Changed the gear on the flex plate so that i can use the standard montero starter.
