The lighter a car the less power it takes to make it go down the road. Just pull it off and drive it for a week and check your milage. I would drive around with the tail gate down on mine. I don't realy know if that did help or not. My truck had a shell for years then once I pulled it off I never went back. It was just eayser to load with out it. In the "manuals" area there is a first gen factory manual that gives you a flow chart to go down with fuel millage problems. K & N Filters can burn up Mass Air Flow sensors if they are over oiled. If too much oil is used on the filter it will be sucked in by the incoming air charge and affect the sensors ability to read properly.
