won't work - the steering box is on the outside of the frame for a 4x4 and on the inside for the 2wd. I do believe that a starquest (starion/conquest) steering box can be installed rather easily; they are also easier to find. How did you find a d-50 sport w/o power steering? I thought all sports had p/s standard; I've had several 79/80 sports and all had p/s. I may have one to sell once I see what it takes to install p/s on my 86 ram 50; its a 2.0 and I need a p/s pump bracket.

While we are on the subject, does anyone know what it takes to convert a non power steering truck to power steering. Does the whole column have to come out or can you bolt on the new unit on the end. This is 2nd generation and I want to convert a 2wd non power steering to power steering from a 4wd donor truck.

As we have said before, you need a p/s box from the 2wd for a 2wd or use a conquest box. the 4wd mounts outside the frame, the 2wd inside. Unfortunately, most 2wds did not have p/s, most 4wds did. the pump and block mounts are the same though. I bet I could make a fortune on the 2 0r 3 spare p/s boxes I got laying around... not really. I have the boxes, but the conditions are unknown at this time.

But if I found one would it be just a matter of bolting it on?

If you find one, you need the rag joint to match the p/s box; its different than the manual column. Besides that and maybe the pitman arm, it bolts in.
