88 mitsubishi rebuild?

Postby ipods.rocks » Wed Dec 22, 2010 12:38 am

88 mighty max, 2.6, 310,000 almost 311.000. when i bought it they said that it was rebuilt at 270,000 but, i diddnt believe them (i liked the truck anyways, so i still bought it.) about how much would it cost for it to be taken somwhere to be rebuilt? (im in cali) or if its even worth it, its running pretty well, but i love this truck, and want to preserve it as much as possobole.

Where at in california? Hell if it's running Ok then I would just put on a new timing belt or chain and gides and run the piss out of it. To have it rebuilt is 2500 easy. Then If the head is bad tack on some more.

the big bustling megalopolous of fresno! ooh, 2500, thats alot, ok, what are a few things that i can do to just clean it, ive heard seafoam, or water into the carb? what about some other things? also, how hard is it to put in a new timing belt or chain and gides. (my skill background is not too much, but i replaced my tranny, and clutch, by reading and seeing very few pictures)

Would you like me too come and take a look at it? Perhaps I could give you a little better idea about what you are working with.

eeh, not really, theres nothing wrong with the engiene, other than the sound of an engiene with 310,000 miles on it.

Wow. That's a lot of miles. No wonder your thinking of rebuilding it. Well if it runs like a champ and gets decent mpg then like camoit said, I'd just change the Belt and waterpump. And a new ring on the water pipe to the waterpump, and a thermostat. Maybe change oil, trans fluid, and differential gear oil. I like seafoam but carbon buildup can be cleaned easily with just water.

Run redline synthetic fuel injection cleaner through the gas - first time 1 bottle for a tank, It will clean the whole fuel system and the carbon from the head too. When you change the oil add 1 quart of rislone in place of 1 quart of oil - its a super detergent that will clean out the oil passages slowly and quiet the valvetrain down as well. I would not put synthetic oil in a motor with that many miles, it will run out of the worn seals.

One thing that probably needs doing is to take the slack out of the balance shaft chain. That in itself will make it sound like a new engine.

Please let us know what you do on it. There is a place down there I picked up a compleate rebuilt ATK engine for $20 off e-bay They had lots of other engines there. New and used. I can't rember what they were called but if you look on ebay you might find them selling another one. Then you can go by and look to see what they have. Look on there for a mitsubishi 2.0L
