Well as my restorative journey continues with the Max, my list of "fixes" seems to grow faster than my "fixes", but such is the day in the life of the owner of a classic car. The latest nuance is a oil spot discovered in the driveway that is coming from the bottom of the alternator. I have spent some time with a flashlight watching for the source of this and am pretty confident that it is coming from the vacuum pump.
The question is, how can I stop this oil drip? Is it a malfunctioning vacuum pump or some other issue presenting itself thru the pump? Also noticed that the cloth covered hose that runs from the oil pan to the pump is frayed, and is sorta oily. This not the source of the oil drips but should be replaced. What is recommended for replacement and what is the purpose of this hose?

I would guess it's you oil return hose that come down from the bottom of the turbo.

Your vacuum pump is cooled with oil. Therefore oil runs through via a pressure hose. Return back through the hose you mention. See if the pressure hose is leaking or not. Pump has a gasket in-between alternator that leaks if not replaces when swapping alternator. I have all these parts as genuine replacements if needed. Invade pump leaks otherwise it cannnot be fixed. Only way to get a pump is to buy complete unit from dealer. Alternator with pump as an assembly. I have these as well for $ 240.00

I think you "nailed" the issue Mike, the truck has a brand new alternator that has a older vacumm pump (original) mounted on it. I bet the oring was not replaced. Does this require a special oring? Is it something I could find locally or can I order the oring from you?

I think i have one. They are available from dealer too. Not just an o ring. Special flat rubber washer.
