found out today that my rims need bored to match the mighty max, i called 5 machine shops and every one wanted 400 a set to bore out.. then a few people told me to bore it myself, they say since the rim is "lug centric" it doesnt need to be nuts on. but it will still come out pretty nuts on, i looked into this alot tonight and found so many people who do this on their trucks. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

grind the tabs down on the front hubs and the rings on the drums with an angle grinder. Use acorn bulge lug nuts. It's easier, cheaper, and safer than having the wheels bored out

do i just grind the tabs, it looked to me like there is a raised ring even after the tabs would be ground down, i only got a few minutes to look tonight before the rain came.

Another alternative is to use 1/4" spacers between wheels and hub/drum. Not the best way, can cause clearance issues with wheelwells, and may require longer wheel studs.

i actually will be routing the the wheels, i ordered the correct lugs and watched a shop out here do a few sets for nissans this weekend, no sweat, it also balanced right up on their balance machine. i just need to borrow a router from a buddy tomorrow.

dont take off to much or your wheels will crack

I used a 4-3/16" hole saw but had access to a milling machine at the time. That was scary enough, I can't even imagine using a router unless you are amazing with it.

the shop i watched to them this weekend took 1/8 inch off at a time, it went like butter, my buddy john did his a few years ago and no cracks, i completely feel cool with this, i was up in the air when i started looking into it but now knowing that Damage has done a large amount since the 80's and never a problem, you just go slow and take off the minimum needed, ill be using a 3/8 bit and going 1/2 inch deep, same as a machine shop would do. and like i said the guys balanced them up with no problems at all.

as long as you feel comfortable doing it go for it. Ive seen shops do wheels though they'll be fine for a long time but they can crack eventually then your kinda fucked. Matt doesnt come here very often but he had a friend whose wheels cracked from being bored out. I believe he died in the wreck that happened afterwards.
