Well the stock tire is 26" tall and the factory rims have a 5" backspace. Where you run into trouble is the rear, as it is hard to find wheels with 5+" of backspacing. With drop spindles, a 16" or larger rim is needed to prevent the rim from rubbing the suspension. The front is an issue if the wheeels are 8" or wider and less than 4.5" backspacing, There are other things that come into play, but these are the big ones. And believe me I know this from experience, having owned my 1980 d-50 since new.
