coil wiring

i have an 83 dodge 50 with the 2.6 motor an i am wondering should i have current on both sides of my coil the pos side an the neg side has power on them ?

Dan,

Please explain better. You should have 11-12.6 v at the coil when ignition is on. Do you mean checking neg to ground (any metal) there is 12v?
