There was a 1st Gen sport with a Tach in the local yard. First time I saw a Ram50 with one (in the yard I mean).

Don't know exactly what you are planning on with your diesel tach project, but you can use the tach in an original cluster with your diesel with a converter from Dakota digital. I swapped a gas for a diesel in my 89 and used their converter to get the tach to work.
