I'm trying to tow 2 sport ATVs, one in the bed and one on a small trailer (4x6). Gross trailer weight would be around 750 lbs. Total payload weight would be around 1200 lbs. I'm not sure if it will work but I wanted to give it a try. So far the U-haul hitch seems like the best option (bolt-on instead of drilling).

i towed a pair of snowmobiles on a sled trailer with my 87 ram 50 (2.0, 5spd) a couple years ago. that low gearing allowed me to use 5th gear despite the fact that the 2.0 is not a torque monster and is REALLY worn out (burns oil and pings like crazy). 2000 lbs sounds like a good tow rating for a large 4 cylinder (same rating as my 86 Aries wagon w/ the 2.5/auto combo) and 3500 lbs for the v6 sounds logical too.

My engine is fairly fresh. New cylinder head, pistons, rings, and headgasket. We'll see if it works. Realistically I may not get around to trying it until spring.
