4wd drop...

Anyone put thought behind dropping a 4wd? Im thinking nasty 6g72TT on my 4wd... but dont want a lifted truck unless its pre-runner status :D Or rock crawler; where as i wouldnt need a TT anything really. Im not looking to make a crazy fast truck or anything... just the thrill of a 6g72TT DOHC in my little truck. But was curious as to the whole suspension thing...

I'd really love to go into making the suspension softer too. Prolly 3or4 link the rear; nice set of coils and then drop the front on coils. I know dropping a 2wd runs into spindle problems and such; i figure same problems may occur for this. Not trying to drag ass or anything; just a nice lower CG ride thats really comfy for daily driving. Thoughts or is this another far out dream i seem to have oh so often...

4wds have torsion bars in the front, just crank them down to get the drop you want. In the rear, you can change the leaf spring perches to 2wd and pull the center leaf. Or do a body drop like the 2wd crowd; or do all 3. Realize that if you use low profile tires that your speedo will be way off.

Lucky guy getting the torsions. I know the Mazda guys reindex the torsions so they get the drop with keeping the torsion bar from hitting the ground. Applies the same?

yes you can also re-index the torsions on mightymax's. I had to do the same on my isuzu or I would have drug them off by now :D I think the only time ive seen you couldn't re-index them was on yota pups. They have a master spline on the bar and can only go in the key on the control arm one way. Trick with those is you swap the keys over, passenger side key on the driver side and vise versa.

If I remember right, 1 flat was 2 inches. Was told that a while ago when I was gonna go with a Mazda. Went with a mighty max instead.

Weak... one to two inches. lol. Nah, imma see what i can do. Maybe lower; maybe lift. Ether imma make it a lowered daily street fighter till i get my 4g/6g T swap on my D50; or lift it and throw my D35/30 up under after the motor work...

Haha. Nah, if you turn it one flat you get 2 inches if you crank it to the oem location. So depending on which way you reindex, lift or drop. I'd do 4 inches or more for the front, but don't know too much about the 4wd models. We got trucks here that have the frame only an inch above the ground in this state. Reconstruction laws here makes modification ilegal without a permit, so everyone modifies their car/truck/suv here. It's all preference.

Okay, how is your torsion bar indexed in the control arm. Is it with splines or does it look kinda like a Allen wrench kinda deal? Mark the original index to control arm, remove torsion bar and turn it one flat/face what you wanna call it. Not too sure how yours is set up but that's what I learned. My truck got coil springs in the front. 2wd.
