4d55 teardown

Taking mikewarme's advice, I double checked my balance shafts and found that the oil hole was welded up on the silent shaft and the bearing was missing. Glad I checked instead of just instaling a belt and cranking it up...

anybody got any Ideas? leave it disconnected(don't sound like a good option)? or replace everything? The originals are screwed since they got a nice blob of weld in the oil hole.

i can remove the weld. You wil need to exchange yours with mine. Tye will tell you too eliminate them. But he had his whole rotating assembly balanced. So unless you do that........ Besides Tye is a Hillbilly so who knows

fo,sho, hahaha i cannot believe they did that. even a redneck like me would not have done that. well i hope i wouldn't.lol. is there a bearing in the block? was the old bearing spun in the block? is that why they did that.......there has to be a reason something is out of spec and they couldnt find the parts so that is what they did. i would keep digging......... i bet you will find some pop can bearings in there too.............

heres where the bearing goes. doesn't look too terrible does it? I've seen rod bearings a lot worse. I'm hopeing that it didn't spin so bad that a bearing won't sit in there. Maybe I can find a way to knurl it up a bit so that it has something to grab on to. not sure if red locktite will hold up in that environment...

i have used in the past some liquid bearing fill made by locktite.... it never failed me but it is only good for a 5 thou fit so i would break out the bore guage and see what you got and go from there.....

Got a turbo, now here's a question. I looks like it needs to be rotated to line up with the intake manifold and for the oil feed and return lines. I've never had a turbo apart so I don't wanna mess it up, can I just loosen the middle clamp and twist it? Or will it mess up seals, balance, whatever? sorry about the dark picture, my phone doesn't have a flash.

you should be able to loosen the clamp with the 12mm nut and rotate the outlet. the outlet should point straight up into the 90deg pipe for the intake.

I had broken a bolt off while removing the water pump, so today I fixed it with one of these thread repair inserts from Rockmount. I think they work great and are a lot easier to use than helicoils. plus they're stainless so they wont seize up again. :)
