12 Volt Glow Plugs

12 Volt Glow Plugs

Postby 85TDW50 » Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:31 am

Anybody know where i can find a set of 12 Volt Glow Plugs for my '85 Power-Ram 50 4D55?

I've searched online for days, tried cross referenced numbers, i can't seem to find anything. The one site i did find them (thanks to a friend on another board for helping me) could no longer get them (NGK Y-115T1 Silver Tops) because they're out of production. I also tried all the local Auto Parts Stores (Advance, Napa, Carquest, Federated), nobody could find them there either

I'm running a Ford Starter Solenoid/Relay & a Momentary On Toggle Switch for my "Glow Plug Controller" so thats why i need 12 Volt plugs

If i remember correctly, the ones Rock Auto listed were 6 Volt Plugs, i tried 6v plugs in it. And being new to diesels at the time i had no idea there were different voltages, i ended up killing them.

A member on another forum i frequent suggested using a Chrysler Ballast Resistor to drop the voltage down, but neither of us is sure if the Ballast will handle that kind of a load.
