38/38 Weber too big?

38/38 Weber too big?

Postby paullen » Mon Jul 12, 2010 12:14 am

Right I'm fed up with the 38/38 bogging down from low revs. Is it possible to just run smaller jets and run it a bit leaner of am I going to have to swap it for a 32/26? The trucks done about 1000 miles on the carb, it goes great when the revs pick up. The MSD 2-al did help, but it still hesitates from low revs.

Can I keep my adapter plate and just swap the 38 for a 32/36?

I was looking on one of the UK sites that stock webers and it seems they might have a solution to the flat spot

http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk/shop/inde ... ductId=199

They mention 'modified idle air bushes '...means nothing to me.

you can always try diferant emulshon tubes and air jets. thats the ones with the all the little holes in it. This will change how the power comes on. i changed my jets and emulation tubes along with the air jets. Now she is just a touch lean in the high Rpm. 1100 to 5500 she puls like a raped ape. Flat around 5600 to 6000. But thats pushing it with out doing lots of bottom end work. To much recip. mass. No ballance shaft. Had it internaly ballanced.

Installing a bigger cfm carburetor is like pouring a gallon of gas straight down the intake unless you have the correct head & cam combo. I never laugh my ass off so hard when I see somebody say they got better performance installing a Weber 38 on their bone stock 2.6 with a header. Some of you people need to do some research on carburetion and learn about the benefits & disavantages of installing a bigger carburetor on a bone stock engine. You will not, I repeat...(WILL NOT) get a carburetor to function properly such as getting flat spots out, without doing some custom jetting. Do you think Weber made carburetors for our trucks tailor made? Hell no they didn't!! I can assure if anybody is having a problem with flat spots with a 38 Weber, it's because the engine is getting too much fuel!

WELL SAID!!!
