What carb to blow thru?

What carb to blow thru?

Postby Johnboy72 » Fri May 29, 2009 10:04 pm

Ok, so curious as I'm not a big motorhead. My donor Starion left before I could get the ecu and wiring harness. So thinking blowing thru a carb will be the easiest route. What carbs can I use? How do I tell if they are compatiable? Sorry for the "stupid" question. But I'm no expert in the world of imports!

racetep sells a modified weber 38 made for their turbo kits. They might be a bit pricey though

here's a link http://www.racetep.com/monturbo.html

a turbo will crush the floats in a normal carb kerby. The weber 38 though has brass floats i think, atleast the racetep version does.

a blow through carb setup is a configuration where the carb is having the turbo push air into it rather then the other type of turbo carb setup where the turbo is mounted after the crb and draws air through.

you need to modify whichever carb you want to run(probably a weber 38) with a brass float that wont crush under boost like a regular plastic one and also larger jets.

Thanks guys. Ethan, heads up man, Coastal is going to have a pick and pull set up soon. This month is what I was told. I'm going to see if the Starion made it or if it was crushed. I'll look and see if the damn thing is still there and get the ECU and wiring if they don't want too much.

Hey Holley carbs are pretty simple ot adapt for a blowthrough set up
here's the short version of how and a litle bit of why-
http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.html
I was thinking along the same lines except I was thinking of puttng an m90 supercharger on my g54b
and then blowing through a 350cfm holley 2300,
unfortunately i don't have much to offer on the webber side of things.
what kind of fuel pump were you thinking?

good luck

The weber 38DGES is the one to use for the blow through setup. The carb is almost infinitely tunable, and the parts to set it up for blow through use are readily available. If you really want to go exotic, my Conquest 2.6 turbo motor is going to have a dcoe40 weber side draft in a draw through setup when it goes into my avatar 1980 D-50. The manifold for the carb was originally for a Toyota turbo but that means nothing; hell its even tapped for nitrous!?!
