Has anyone had any experience with using any msd ign on our truck? I have an msd offroad that I got about 6 years ago, but never put it on the truck it was bought for. I just want to know if it is worth messing with.

I ran an MSD 5 Ignition on my 80 d-50 for years with the original blaster coil- didn't really notice much of a difference with it. I got better performance with Nology wires and NGK platinum plugs gapped to .055. Can't run an MSD with the Nology wires.

I would have thought that it would have made a difference. How many times does a msd ign spark? I may put it on anyways though.

10 times a cyl up to 3000 rpm, then a longer single spark. It may have been I didn't notice because it was put on with other items at the same time; it surely can't hurt.

It absolutely improves response, MPG, and overall power. If you are sitting on a stock motor then you will not see a huge improvement. If you are a sitting on a modified motor with a bigger carb (more fuel) and head/exhaust work than it makes all the difference in the world. The spark on the EI is weak. If modified you need a stronger spark to get a clean efficient burn meaning your not blowing fuel out of your tailpipe. You get much better throttle response out of this system. I have yet to fire my new motor but have had the MSD system on previous vehicles with excellent results and reliability. Install it, set it, adjust your timing and forget it forever.

The full system (new) will cost you approximately $600 bucks

1. MSD 6AL box
2. MSD Blaster 2 Coil
3. MSD 8.5 mm Wires
4. Only run NGK Plugs
