2.4 auto - wide block?

Postby DavetheDude » Wed Mar 31, 2010 6:28 am

Just pulled a 2.4 out of a 91 with an automatic trans thinking that it would be a narrow block. It measures 13.25 between the dowels. Does this mean that it the auto and the manual of this year are interchangeable? Looking through the posts I did not find this specific question answered. Also I am now in need of a crank and a rod for this engine if anyone has one laying around.

Bottom line. Can I take a 2.4 out of a 92 manual and drop it in a 91 with an auto? The dowels are the same but is everything else. Just found out that it is the same width as a 2.6 but the starter is in a slightly different place. Originally I had hoped to put the 2.4 out of the 92 and put it in my 89 4x4 but that theory is now shot. I have this other 91 with the auto that is a nice truck and want to put it in there if it will fit.

yes, they are both wideblocks and the same motors/blocks. The manual will bolt right up, just use the clutch parts for the manual.
