What Ford Trans is this guys??

Postby 77amc » Thu Sep 16, 2010 4:17 pm

Well I finally got my Hornet home to the shop and pulled the motor/trans. At some point the p/o did a ford tranny swap that can fit the AMC bell-housing with little fab.
BUTm I don't know fords at all, and need some help identifying this trans.
Lets see if I can post a pic of it here.

How many forward gears? 3,4,5,6

x2 on the top loader - all manual trannys for AMCs in the 60s up were ford toploaders except for the t-10s in the high power cars

Thanks for the uploading sir..
Pennyman: Really..? I've read that the 4,6, some 8's used the Saginaw 4spds and some of those were the aluminum bodied ones. (those didn't like much torque) BUT then again, they used the parts bins from most every maker out there at the time.
I'll have to dig out my books and shop manuals. I was immersed in them years ago but since getting into the Mitsubishis, I've forgotten lots.

SO, any info on the "top-loader" trannys?
It looked to be a corse spline input shaft, but the clutch looked fairly stout..

Here's a site I found on them.. I guess its' not a top loader.

Of course, i didn't write down the casting #'s and i'm too tired to go back out to the shop..
I did pick up some aluminum cleaner that has a acid base in it for some other projects, so maybe I'll give it a good scrubbin and get all the markings/#'s off of it.

Thanks again fellas.
