Transfer case removal ?

Does anyone know if you can remove just the transfer case from a 90 4X4 with a V6, or does the trans/transfer case have to come out as an assembly. The factory manuals show the transfer case is bolted to the trans and there is only sealant between them, so it looks easy enough. I'm just wondering if I will screw something up taking them apart in the truck? Thanks
