Manual Trans compatibility question

I'm sure this has been talked about already but is the manual transmission from a 90 2.4L the same as the manual from an 88 2.0L? If not, are they interchangeable?

No, the 2.4, 2.6 and believe 2.0 (auto) are all wide blocks. The 2.0 5spd are narrowblock. Believe if you measure the two bottom bellhousing bolt holes that will tell ya the answer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the narrow block is 12.25" and wide block is 13.25". If no one answers, I have both transmissions and can measure after work. I can measure both blocks too.

But all manual trannys are wide block, so a manual 2.4 should fit a manual 2.0. the clutch disc and pressure plate may be different though

No pennyman a 2.0L with a manual 5 speed tranny is NARROW block.

To the original poster, no they are no the same and will not interchange because the 2.4 is a wideblock and the 2.0 manual tranny is narrowblock as Johnboy stated

I recently pulled an 88 Max out of a field for $350, the guy said it was really hard getting it from 1st to 2nd and that it would grind doing it.... I'm thinking its a synchro issue but I'm not sure, nor have I had the chance to experience the problem myself. We just got it running Tuesday but it needs an idler arm before I'm gonna attempt to drive it.

There's a junkyard around here that I've heard will sell any transmission for $90 with a 30 day garantee, if you pull it yourself.

That's a good price. Cash N Carry in Savannah charged me like $125 core included and believe they have a 30 or 90 day warranty. www.iluvused.com

Even I can learn something- I may have known about the 2.0 5 speed being different, but I didn't know that its a narrow block as well.
