Location of Overdrive Solenoid

Postby Koprnkc » Sat Jan 16, 2010 7:36 pm

So, notice that my power ram 50 w/auto transmission was not shifting into overdrive. Figure the overdrive solenoid has shot craps. Now, just want to verify, is this solenoid located on the driver side, on the transmission, under the vehicle? Or is the solenoid mounted somewhere else?

Thanks for the help guys

normaly its the overdrive relay that goes out. I think its on the driverside kick panel up by the firewall. Mine was a round plug with a metal cap on it.

There is a sensor on the intake manifold that tells the tranny the truck is at operating temp- if it fails, no overdrive. If you ground that wire , then the o/d works all the time.

Thanks for the help guys. I know one way to check for the bad relay is to turn the key to the on position and listen for a click down by the kickpanel when pressing the OD button. I will try that first, and work my way from there.
