2.0 5 spd to auto swap

On my 86 d-50, it currently has the 2.0 and 5 spd. Can I swap out the 5 spd for the auto without changing the block? I'm thinking they are both narrow block motors- I know all the gory swapping details and have a 2.6 auto parts truck. Want to keep the 2.0 for economy for a while.

hey, 86 2.0 G63B is a narrow block. the big problem will be the trans tunnel. the auto trans tunnel is wider to clear the linkage and accumulator on the 904 trans. that trans does not have overdrive.

Glad you confirmed that the auto trucks have wider tunnels- others on here thought I was nuts. Its probably staying a 5 spd anyways.

The 86/87, 2.0 that I got with the auto trans was a wide-block! The 5spd 1st gen 2.0 was a narrow block from what I've read/told. I can snap some pics for you of the auto bolt pattern.

with that little 2.0, you are better off sticking with the 5spd for economy and performance reasons. only reason i could see to give up a stick for an auto is strictly for drag racing, dedicated tow vehicle or if you are disabled. any way you look at, you will want the better low end punch of the 2.4 or 2.6 with an auto!
