LSD and Gears, What to Pay?

Postby Mojave Magic » Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:50 pm

Anyone have a good estimate for what to pay for an entire rear axle with LSD from a Starion?

I found two near me and both may be LSD and the 3.545 gearing I've been looking for to put in my truck (4x4). I know stuff is tough to find, but I still don't want to get taken for a ride. Price would be for the complete rear axle, since the seller doesn't want to separate anything and I would be helping them pull it apart. Thanks

I paid 200 for a complete rear axle out of a 95 montero 2nd gen with disc brakes, arms mounts, panhard rod and the drive shaft to the transfer case and they removed it from the truck. 200 is still a fair price for a whole axle complete, if you can swap it with minimal fuss. If its less, all the better!!!

Thanks.

I got two complete Starion differentials with LSD and the 3.545 gearing I've been wanting to put in my truck. They were $200 each, which was the upper end of what I wanted to pay, but both were in one place, so if you factor in gas and drive time I'm not complaining too much. I couldn't even find them anywhere else close to me to compare.

I'm going to put the gears in front and rear, but probably only the LSD in the rear, so I may have the other one up for sale here in a month or so.

I thought the rear was an 8" and the starion was a 7.5"?

The differential housings are different, but going by this thread the guts should swap no problem. lsd-limited-slip-diff-and-gear-ratios-t343.html

The two cars I got them from were both 87s. From what I've read the only difference in the gearing is the pinion gear. The Starion has a 11 tooth, while my truck has a 10 tooth. the ring gear was a 39 tooth. I'm going to swap both gears anyway, just so they match after being run together for so long. The only part that has me concerned is setting the backlash, because I've never done it, but I have the manual and the internet to help.

I'm not a quest nut but I do know that the early flatsider quests ran the smaller gear. The thing to do if you can wold be to find a front diff out of a v6 powered MM possibly a raider/montero and swap it in then you could run the regular quest 8in easy!!!
