3m sells a vinyl and adhesive remover that will loosen the sticker and dissolve the glue. 3m also sells a vinyl eraser that uses a drill motor to erase the sticker and glue without damaging most finishes. If you go the hair dryer route you still need something to take off the glue. Charcoal lighter fluid works well for adhesive removal, and can sometlmes work to remove stick on graphics. It is Naphta solvent, also known as Benzene, and will not attack most finishes, but will remove any wax on the finish. It is even sold as bug and tar remover, and will remove road line marking paint if its still fresh.
