stripe removal

stripe removal

Postby natureboy » Sun Oct 25, 2009 5:18 pm

Any of you body and paint gurus have any tips on removing stripe tapes? Is Sam from NY on here?? I found a cool little tool to take the bulk of the tape off, but the adhesive is another story. I've tried acetone, but it really didn't cut it. The tool I used is a heated razorblade thing, kind of looks like a soldering iron. $8 at Harbor Freight. ( Hurray for cheap, crappy chinese made disposable tools ). I imagine there is some trade secret to effectively remove the tape adhesive, but so far I haven't found it-at least one that one ruin the paint!
Thanks

Try charcoal lighter fluid, also known as naphtha. It is like a high grade kerosene that can be used for thinning enamel paint but won't harm the finish. Also great for removing rust proofing and road paint splatter; Its also sold as bug and tar remover. Just don't smoke when using it; its not explosive but will ignite. 3M also makes adhesive remover that works well, but is much more expensive.

3m makes an adhesive removing pad you put on a drill. I hear it works wonders for pinstipe and stuff like that.

My 91 2wd had red vynil ones on it. I used a razor blade and scraped em off. Hit em with some 409 or anything that murders grease and youll have it done. Tho watch out for the paint if you like it
