WTB, Info needed, Overhead console, light, mirror pod?

Postby Bernie Lowmax » Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:57 am

Guys i wanna put some sort of console/map light set up on my headliner. I drive my truck everywhere and i want to have more light in the cab. I purchased an LED bulb for the stock dome light at the back of the cab but in a body dropped truck, and the light being lower then normal, you dont get much from it. Any years, or different models like Montero`s come with a different fixture arround the rear-view that i could use without having to to much modification other then wiring? I can epoxy brackets to the roof skin but no welding as the truck is already painted. Anyone?

I have nothing to add here, but I had to ask. You live in Wilkes Barre? I live right outside of Scranton and would like to know if you did all the work on your truck or some place did it. I'd like to body drop my truck, but don't really feel I have the skill to do so.

I have a set of map lights i got out of a crown vic I think. It has built in clips so it just clips into the headliner. Has 3 lights on it. Isuzu rodeos and troopers had map lights in them as well you might be able to use.

Here's some pics. I never got around to putting it in so its been sitting in the garage for a while.

Thanks for the info Ethan! Ill scour the local yard on friday.

MightyG, I do live in W-B. My friends and i did all the work including the body drop, the suspension and interior. My friend Mark did all the body work and paint, and unless your willing to pay him an outrageous amount of money, i doubt he would be interested in doing it again.(no disrespect to you he is just super busy these days and just likes to do it at his convenience and leisure) I could refer you to a shop in W-B tho if you are interested? They have a guy who does BD`s and a guy who does paint and body. Let me know.

Another place to find overhead consoles with lights is conversion vans, trucks or SUVs. I picked up a set from a Mark III pickup conversion with all the trim in wood for 10.00 at Carlisle. BTW, I'm glad to see another D50 in Pink on here; is that the pink off the PPG hot colors chart?

the lights are from a GM Lumina VAN
I have now put this into 3 different trucks
just use a couple of "speed nuts" thou the head liner to hold it in place
i use the side switch to turn off the door switch
some have a toggle in the center too
easy wire up from the rear doom light
i also use a GM lighted rear view mirror
my rear view also has a campus in it from a
Oldsmobile Bravada ,i just cut off the arm of the
old mirror and left the mount and cover up there
