A/C thermostat?????

A/C thermostat?????

Postby wrngwae » Fri Aug 07, 2009 3:33 am

Ok all i have recently got the correct A/C bracket and pump for my 4d55. and i tell ya its no fun to hunt down some of these parts. but it is a fresh rebuilt york ac compressor and btw it sounds cool. but back to my question. in the wiring diagram i have for A/C it shows a thermostatically controlled system. when i turn on the A/C it does what it is supposed to but it gets cold and i mean damn cold i put a them probe in the vent and the air comes out at 35deg. hell yea sound good dont it but,,,,,i dont think it should be that cold. am i putting excessive load on my compressor? is that thermostat in the wiring supposed to be in the vent and regulating the clutch assy to maintain a certain temp? i haven't "froze" up yet but i think it is a possibility. and input would be great. on the up side if i run a hose from the duct to my cold Coors light my mountains should stay blue :handgestures-thumbup: lol

edit,,,,, i did get my new fan resistor put in too and i have all 4 fan speeds now too so i really worry if i run the fan on low for freezing up and doing compressor damage.

that's cold!

Make sure you didn't put too much refrigerant also.

Have you tried adjusting your AC/heater controls to see if the temps. change?

the refrigerant is right i have converted the compressor to the 134a and its cooooold, im a refrigeration tech, granted it is for industrial refrigeration but ist all about the same,,,,sorta,,,,,long story. and yes the temperature does change with dash control from the blue/red control but the compressor still stays loaded??????? what is that thermo control for or what does it due and where in the heck is it????????? now i got a innercooler, oil cooler and a trans cooler all crammed in that grill but nothing is blocked so im not getting a high discharge pressure which also creates a lock up/freeze up?????? so that is why i think it is in the wiring controlled thermothingy lol.

If it has one the wiring comes out of the top of the evap box. Is your evap box open or closed in front under the glovebox; if open, you don't have a thermostat control on it, closed you do. My 80 D-50 has an adjustable stat, the 85 i had didn't. Hopes this helps
