Oxygen sensor

Oxygen sensor

Postby trash » Fri Jul 10, 2009 6:06 pm

Can anybody tell me if there is any truth to removing the sensor and cleaning it with a small wire brush? Dealership says i need a new one but then i came across blurb on the net saying to clean them... I so hope!!

thats the dumbest thing i ever heard

just kidding, lol
what i heard is you can clean them with a propane torch, but i never replaced one on any car i ever had so i really dont know what is fact or fiction about that. the one from my sprint looked so fragile that a brush would break it like an old spark plug ceramic.
all i know is that my buddy tried to remove his on his newer car(all 6 of them :P) and broke every one taking them out.

hehe, you're probably right about it being the dumbest thing... I can't see it coming out with breaking either!

This has been such an ordeal but finally might be coming to an end!!:)
I've now bought and returned 2 oxygen sensors that were supposed to fit, one was $153. and the other was $60. Two others I just flat out refused to buy because they were charging $380!! and that was at a Mitsu dealership.

Finally found a 2 wire today for $53, if it works i'll post brand and part # tomorrow.

As expected the oxygen sensor striped the threads coming out, new one did go in but we're keeping our fingers crossed it doesn't pop out due to the threads being damaged!

It was not the reason the truck is running badly, so i'm back to square one. The part itself is the right one... NGK 21001
I'll double check the number since i'm going from memory and only had one coffee this morning so far!

EDIT: Truck does run smoother faster now so the sensor did make a bit of difference after all:)
