From the Philippines

Postby daxcap » Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:20 pm

Hello everyone. I'm from the Philippines and this is my "other" car. I only use my Ram50 once or twice a week and mostly reserved as a spare car. Lately I've taken an enthusiasm in it and since I've been surfing the net and I've seen its a pretty cool ride.

Image

My father bought this back in year 2000 in the province after the US left their Bases here. I'm not sure if it was used in the service or not but so far I haven't seen any evidence that it was repainted from green to blue. He lifted the body by about 3 inch I think and I'm thinking of returning it to stock height.

I really don't know much about it and so far I have only seen a handfull of them around. Having similar parts to the Mitsubiushi L200 (sold locally) and with a 4G54 engine has made it easier to maintain.

I was just wondering about a few things and I hope you guys can help me by answering a few questions.

1. Are there other variants of the 4G54 engine? I think its the same with a Galant but I haven't driven a Galant with as much power as this. I've towed a Pajero once and it didn't have a hard time pulling something bigger.

2. I have AT up to 3rd gear only. Is this normal? The 3rd gear kicks in at over 50 mph only. I had it checked to see if you can adjust the gear ratios and they it can't be adjusted.

3. What is the stock garb for it? I'm not sure if it has the right one.

4. Lastly, its a bit of a gas guzzler. I get about 14 mpg or 4 km per liter. Is this normal?

Well, thats it for now. Hope you guys can help me with some of my inquiries.

Thanks.

Theres a turbo variant of the 5g4b came in the Conquest/Starions. It was a lil bit under 200 ponies vs your 110 in the truck.

Not 100% sure on the tranny issue, I think all 87+ trucks had a 4spd auto but never had an auto truck.

Stock carb for it would be a Mikuni, quite a few guys have had luck replacing the mikuni w/ a weber and being much happier but the Mikunis a good ol carb once ya figure it out.

I think w/ 31 in tyres 3in BL torsion crank on my 86 w/ a 2.6 I made about 14, but I drove her HARD.......

Let us know if ya got any more questions glad to see we have a foreign represenative!!!!

I would be more than happy to help you guys out with parts any way I can.

I didn't know the 4G54 was 110. Is this a 2.4l or 2.6l? I've always wondered about that.

I should have the tranny checked. I swear I can only feel it shift up 3 times.

Mikuni carb. I've been looking for a maintenance manual for the carb but didn't know what brand it was.

Thanks guys for answering some of my inquiries.

2.6L displacement

Looking back at this you should only feel it shift 3times. 1-2 2-3 3-4

Best thing you can do is find a Factory Service Manual for your year or one thats similar in example from 82-89 the 2.6 was used in trucks slight differences with carbs and emissions but one for any of those years otta work.

2.6L displacement, now I'm impressed. You must forgive me. Here cars with engine displacements higher than 2.0L is not common due to marketability.

I think I only feel it shift up to 3rd gear at around 50 to 60 kph. Due to the traffic around the city, I rarely get it over 65 kph.

Will really need to find a manual for my Ram50.

Worse case, you can order a Chilton manual or Haynes manual online. I think there has been some posted on here that you could access for free. But can't remember, think that was when I was a virgin to this site.
