Leaking front main seal

Postby T-Bone » Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:46 pm

Hello
I just bought my first D50 turbo diesel and am new to this forum. Looking forward to driving it but it has a oil leak that I want to fix first. Any help with these next few questions is very much appreciated. First, there is a pretty bad oil leak from the front of the engine, behind the timing belt cover. The owner told me that the oil was leaking from a bad seal, maybe the crankshaft? I have yet to really start taking it apart and look. Would I need any special tools to put this seal in? I have a Chrysler manual that explains the process of removing the belts but not how to replace any of these seals. What would be a good book to get for these kinds of repairs? Chiltons? Anyone who has gone though this repair and has any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again
