The Paint My Truck contest.
Please read all the information below.
Here is the contest.
I want someone to come up with a color and paint scheme for the new truck. So I figured that I would make it into the first ever contest. The truck will be using a "Body Wrap" and not the normal paint job. This will allow for eraser placement of sponsor and contingency stickers. This will also make it possible to change the graphics later on and have other contests in the future.
Here is the rough draft of the truck body. I will not have the final draft of the body until the body is finished. That is because there no commercially available fiberglass body's panels on the market for this kind of a truck. But this will work for now.
You can download the PDF attachment. CLICK HERE FOR PDF. (http://onsiteconcrete.net/d-50/Truck.pdf) The contest is simple. The person that comes up with the best design that receives the most votes wins.
What do you win? Not only is your design go directly on to the truck for the world to see, but also get your choice of $50.00 Summit Racing Bucks. or a $50.00 gift card to any participating Pep Boys, Kragen O'reilly, OR Auto Zone.
Rules Of the contest.
There must be a minimum of 5 unique members in good standing that submit entries for the contestants can receive votes on there design.
The contest will end 3 weeks after the new body molds have been received. That should be roughly 3 months from today. Or sooner. The body goes to Blue Color Customs this week.
You may submit as many entries / designs as you want. When submitting entries please E-Mail entries to theboard@mightyram50.net if you can OR you can send me a PM and I will give you my mailing address. Do Not copy a known design from the net. I know them all.
All entries received in the contest will be listed in this post but there designs will not be listed / shown until the minimum of 5 unique member entries have been received. Members names will not be shown next to there submission or in any order.
Entries MUST include your User Name, e-mail address, and your Full Real Name, home address, and a contact phone number. All information submitted will be held and used with in the guide lines of the Privacy Statement (http://www.mightyram50.net/vbulletin/legal/Terms_of_use.html) of the MightyRam50.net web site.
If there are less then 5 unique members submitting designs 1 week after the body is received the contest will be canceled, and no one will receive the $50.00 prize. Unless I change my mind.
I pay you. The board is not connected to my contest and funds paid out will NOT come from the donations to run the board.

I should have the details worked out this week. I hope. There will be a down loadable PDF you will use to enter. You will need a scanner or a good camera or some other way to e-mail entries back. Or you can snarl mail entries to me.
There will be only 1 winner but you can enter as many times as you like, BUT there must be at least 5 unique member names entering the contest before a winner will be picked. The contest will run for several weeks then end when the time is right. You will see.....
That is all for now :(

If it's not clicking ads, then I think I know what it is. I remember talking to Camoit a while ago about him making one. If it's the same one, then it'll be easy.

I can give you a hint.
It has something to do with a truck and it has nothing to do with making something. A 10 year old could do it..
well if it involves drawing i better start getting some practice....been years since i drew anything.....?????hmmmmm

Ok, need to know a couple things:
Race environment- is this an oval truck or more for Baja/rally-type racing?
What are the limitations of a body wrap? Never seen such a thing personally, so I dunno what to expect, nor what the process is.
Can a body wrap simulate materials such as brushed/anodized aluminum or carbon/kevlar fiber?
i most likely wont attempt this but wish the best to all who do...but just in case---i too would like to know the same information as stated above in Acuta73's post...

This is a baja truck I would believe. The amount he's spending on suspension and watching his build. This contest can be entered using ms paint, photoshop, or even crayons. Print, color, scan or take a photo. I remember talking to him about this a while ago. Good luck contestants.

OK Just to clear up the questions.
The truck is a Trophy Truck Style, built for off road racing but is going to be street legal. LOL.
A body wrap is a computer generated graphic. That is stuck to the outside of the truck. You see cars and busses coved with it. I'm not going to put $3000.00 paint job on it just to destroy it. So a computer graphic is the best solution. The K&N truck is wrapped.
All you do is print out the drawings and use colored pencils or pens.
I would use pencils my self. Then you can scan them in or mail them to me and I will scan them in and put them and you are entered in the contest.

He did say a few months, which is good. I have too many projects running (4 computers, a truck, a batch of beer, a batch of mead, a batch of cider, and getting ready to move).
Definitely have a couple of ideas here, just need to squeeze in some time.

The body is going to the body guys on 5-22-11. How long it takes IDK. Just print out the PDf and color away and send them to me. The clock IS ticking. The more I get the better the chance you have. Keep in mind that the members vote on the winner. I don't pick.

The body parts are at the sand blasters. If you are going to try to get the $50.00 then you should start working on your design. Once it gets to the body guys then it won't take long for them to do there thing.

The end is in site, so whip something together and get it to me. Foe 10 minutes of your time to draw something up can be worth $50 bucks to you. That would be $300 per hour if you were getting paid that way. The body should be finished near the end of the week. Then it's off to the fiber glass guys to make the molds. Then it's up to me for the carbon fiber or glass work, how ever I go. Carbon will be more cash but it will be thin. Around 1/4 inch. Then the paint becomes easy. Just the cab and cage. It's around $65 per yard and would take 2 layers.
This picture was from last week.

Now you can see the shape of the hood. I'm going to keep it some what square like the truck was back in 1980. If I was to make is nice and round then it would look like the new style that is used today. The hard part is keeping the small curve along the top of the fenders.

I forgot to show you the colors of carbon fiber I can go with to match your design. NOTE. The Red and Blue become darker nearly black when resin is added.
http://www.carbonsales.com/images/T/xctmpdYVPJg.png Blue
http://www.carbonsales.com/images/T/xctmp9tSktx.png Red
http://www.carbonsales.com/images/T/xctmpkxGEjz.png Yellow
http://www.carbonsales.com/images/T/xctmpFJmY9k.png
Was reading this thread hoping to see the end result, but I guess I can still get in on the draw.
Are these the only colors that can be used? I'm guessing no graphics or tight details, just an aggressive stripe pattern?
I'm sure I could spend $50 at Orielys pretty easy on my new/old truck.

Sorry carbon fiber was not used. I would have added on about $6000 more to the body. I'll try to get the body photos up ASAP. The only carbon to be used will be for the air intake to the radiator. But that may change due to just the complexity of the parts. Well see how the fiberglass pre-fitting goes. The color scheme is totally up to you. It will be a graphic car wrap with contingency sticker lay out, all the way down to the class numbers and window nets. I got distracted on cleaning up the radio station for you guys. Just look at the top of the page for MMD5 Radio. Makes for nice surfing and posting. I'll take some Pict's, tonight of where it's at.
As for tight graphics yes.... It will be computer generated so water marks are do able. Just applied on to the truck. No paint just one big sticker. Easy to fix or replace.

Cool, I got a hood just about done using only red yellow and blue, actually don't look that bad so I might keep that scheme going for the rest of the truck, but nice to know I can do more than 3 colors.

One thing I should have said is that the main sponsor gets the hood and doors. The logo can be found at the bottom of the page. On Site Concrete. Thats where the money comes from for the project. Of course Mightyram50.net will be on it as well. But all that will be figured out in time. I just need the main paint graphics. Once I get the body mounted I'll get some pictures put up. Then we can get to down to business. The only main parts needed now is the springs. You should be able to open the PDF files in the first post and in port them to the picture software you are using.

So far I have had only 1 real entry. (Who ever it was that sent me the drawings please send me a PM as the computer I had your information on crashed and it was lost.)
But it's time to update the .PDF files on the server that show the body lines better.
I can see the end of the tunnel.

OK so I was a little off on my time frame. (Only a year or so) Well the body and paint guy is coming over this Saturday 4-28-12 to give me the price to do the final body work and prep it for paint. I had been thinking about using a body wrap but that may change, or maybe not. Who knows at this point. But I did send some parts out to the power coater, just some handles (black), jack mount (blue), fuel filler and tank strap (red). A friend of mine is going to come over and put in his ideas. Then I have the body wrap guys that want to get in on it.
So if you have any ideas, let's see it.
All I have left is carbon fiber that does not get paint, a cup holder, and the gun rack. From there it's time to get the weight on it. Measure the suspension for the springs, dissemble, send out for powder and paint. Re-assemble in reverse order, fire and drive it.
Body is mounted and fitted.
