Driveshaft ?

So I have a 87 mighty max with a g54b 2.6 and 5 speed from idk what year truck and I need to find out what the length of the driveshaft is?? Anybody know?

Also so im not starting another thread, I want some advice and general price range im looking at for building my 2.6 block up and running ASAP To start it has a cracked block and I found a new block for 150 Just looking to see what I should have the machine shop do?? Also will any parts from to 2.0 work on the 2.6?

I do, but it is a 2 piece that the front piece was cut and crappy welded together and I'm gonna go to a one piece.

a 1 peace will cause vibration because the angles of the yokes are to far off from each other. Stick with a 2 peace. If you have a drive line shop in your area they should be able to come out and measure it for you.

It's a single cab truck and the driveshaft is shorter then the 2.0 driveshaft, so the angles shouldn't be off right? Sorry should have said single cab.

To get a better idea of the angles and what is going on when under a load, look in the manual and source info section. Fond the UTI manuals that cover the power train. There is about 10 minutes of reading and the complete picture of what is going on. It's worth the quick look. The info in the UTI books are totally usable for what we have. It will look something like this. You always want to keep the angles within 2 degrees or less through the hole range of travel of the rear end. Also I don't think there is enough spline on the tail shaft of the trany to allow for the slip yoke movement. It can slam the trany and break the tail housing. If you can stick with the 2 peace. you can also run into the cross member that is there.

I thought the two piece shafts were for extended cabs and long beds. My 90 model single cab has a one-piece shaft. It was 2.4 from the factory .....now 2.6.

yea every standard cab I've seen has had a one piece drive shaft and my macrocab has a two piece.

1st gen single cab trucks were 2 piece driveshafts - the rear shafts were all the same length, the front half changed with which engine/tranny was used. 2nd gen longbed and extended cabs do have 2 piece shafts as they use the same basic frame with the bed mounts in different places for the 2 styles.

Someones got one laying around to measure it for u. If not , just call the driveshaft shop that you plan on using and consult them. They might have refence material with the specs. I believe you just have to crawl under your truck and measure from the trans output shaft to the pinion flange.

Do you have the yoke for the tranny you are using? If you do, realize that the u joints for a 2.6 may be larger than a 2.0 - I found that out when I changed them in a 88 ext cab ram 50 with a 2.6 and auto; the book said they were the larger ones, when they were the smaller ones.

They both appear the same....havent measured yet
