I used some 1gA dsm seats in mine for a bit. They sat to low for my taste, maybe some suv style seats will be better. Pics.

All I store behind my seats is this truck sub box that has a JL Audio 8" sub and the amp bolted to the back wall. As you can see there is plenty of room for an even bigger sub. I ride with my seat all the way back on the rail also since I'm a little over 6' tall.

ah thats wassup.. looks great! me too, but i have a 12" in a truck-type box so i think that'll fit too. looks like the '98 stratus seats would be a nice alternative to our benches.

Mine are out of a mid 90s rodeo. I got them from handismurf. Not sure how often he's on anymore. They arnt modified much. Drilled different holes thru the front rails, the backs on the outsides bolted right in, the centers have 1inch pieces of tubing to space them up a bit. Just longer bolts were needed

bobsnewdirection
01-04-2013, 01:01 PM
mine sit farther back then the bench, but they are really low. it actually makes for less leg room because you are almost straight, before had knees bent. i dont drive my mitsu far so i didnt notice til i took it to jersey shore and back in one night. 300 miles in a cramped space sucks
92bluemax

Look at the thickness of the seat back when looking at the seats - that will determine the distance you have for leg room. Thicker seat back = less legroom. Fiero seats work well space wise, but suck on long trips.
92bluemax
01-06-2013, 10:18 AM
The brackets just wont let the seats slide back far enough, and the seat backs aren't thick at all,but I will not mess with them until after we move back to central VA next weekend

I have changed seats in Geronimo so many times over the 32 years I have owned him I lost count. I have used the stock rails, cut the mounts off the stock rails and remounted them to the new seat rails, and made new mounts to adapt the seat tracks to the original mounting holes. He currently has a set of 6 way power seats from a 1991 Dodge Monaco sedan, which was formerly an Eagle Premier. I made new rear brackets and used the front from the original seats, but slotted them to fully line up.

I will even make some drawings of adaptors that you will be able to make to get the seats in the right position for your needs. I want to see all of you get these seats in correctly and safely, after all I want to see you enjoy your trucks, not hate them.

When the bench finally died in my '90MM I put in some 2nd gen Honda Prelude seats I had from a parts car. I just used a generic mounting kit and the factory rails from the parts car and bolted them to the floor.
Now after reading this thread I'm going to see if the Prelude seats will mount up to the MM bench rails for my new '93MM. :)

I'm not sure what you are asking.
From reading this forum, I would be comfortable saying that the saet rails are the same across the generations of the truck.
I just wasn't smart enough to figure out to use them when I installed my seats, which seems such and obvious answer now.:(
Using the 'universal' mounting kit was a PITA. I easily mounted each seat a dozen times, cutting brackets and adding washers and spacers, trying to get the seats to sit straight and level. :(

When I go seat hunting, I usually look in the celica, or neons, and other sporty small cars. I look for a low styled seat because I don't like sitting up to much on the wheel. Make sure the seat hinges both directions and you get a good slide from the rails. Get a tough tweed fabric and try to stay away from valure or crushed corduroy because its hard to clean and gets dirty real fast. Look also for darker color seats, again, dirt can make a new seat look old fast. Our wrecking yards sells a pair of any seats you find for only about $14 to $17 for the pair. At those prices, you can find your carport collecting seats very quickly.
These are old IROC buckets that are being replaced soon while my truck is down getting rebuilt.
5891
Bring a tape measure with you also. You can fudge an inch or so by bending the rail legs or remounting the rails. They don't always have to be a direct fit to make them work. Find your favorite seats and make them work.

they just needed to have a few holes drilled because the seats didnt match up with my holes in the floor so new holes and shortening the front brackets and re-welding them solved it all

Brad,
Where did you get that console..Nice! I want one!! and buckets! I have new HP seats for the M3, so was going to recover the Vaders with cloth, and use them in my MMAx..the console would REALLY make it a nice and more modern, usable interior! Nice job OP on seat install!
Someone asked about first gen buckets install. My bought new in 1984 Ram 50 TD sport had buckets (VERY NICE and comfortable ones too, by the way!) Maybe find a pair and recover them? Some on here are parting a few out, tho not sure about seats...

These are the seats I'm using in my MM. They came off a Mazda B series Truck.

Ill go ahead and contribute. 2000 Hyundai Tiburon seats I installed in the 90' MM 4x4. I had to remove the Hyundai rails and welded them to MM 4x4 bucket seat rails. Nice low profile, snug seat that is quite comfortable.

You swapped the belt retractors as well Charger? That's one of the annoying things with a Gen 1 - the floor mounted buckles. I pulled a pair of Peugeot 306xsi seats and the matching retractors for my Gen 1. My seats are tired but they are firm and low to the floor.
One day I might even be able to drive in them! :lmao:

I used the original belts retractors and receivers that mount into the floor. I eventually swapped over some eclipse receivers that bolt right into the seat frame. They are a lot less annoying and cleaner looking.

i was looking online and never found a bucket seat! I am using the seats out of a 1999 Honda civic, gonna get them in soon. I am gonna modify the bracket to fit and hopefully get a factory height seat, I am paranormal about seeing over the wheel. I have a torso of a man about a quarter foot shorter than me, so I need to do height adjustment for 5'9" and leg adjustment for 6'3". I am 6' and my legs are fine in the factory bench, knees slightly bent but nothing a good ol to the floor won't fix. I can stretch both me and my truck like that! I would like a sport cab for this exact reason, but what can I say, its better than thS10 I was gonna buy! that thing had a non adjustable 16" steering wheel that was in my lap! I know a guy who used a S10 bench in his ranger, it had the center console and the twin buckets, it was like a set of buckets bolted to a center piece with a console and he shortened the back part of the bracket 1/2" and bam it went in. I might actually use a twin bucket bench with the console, if it fits like that.

Anybody ever try (or think to try) the ford Ranger 60/40 split bench as a seat swap? They are super easy to find and It has a flip down armrest with cup holder in the middle and some storage! Plus it counts as a middle seat if I need to stick my daughter in there with me! I’m sure there would be some fabrication involved but was just wondering!
