So I've got my engine torn down to a bare block now. I'm looking at my oil pump and in my box of goodies I have a crank seal and balance shaft seal to put back in it but does anyone know where I can get the tiny rotating seal for the oil pump drive gear? Also how do you get the oil pump drive shaft out? that cover above the pulley is stuck and I cant seem to get it off to get the shaft nut out :(

The drivers side balance shaft is what that gear is attached to.

Yea but how do you get that plate off to get the bolt off the shaft? Ive tried turning, prying everything.

Well, there is a seal all around the plate, refer to page 2B-15 of the Haynes manual for details.
here's what the block looks like (Click the link)

did you get all the bolts? you can see by the brown marks where the seal goes.
maybe the series of shots here will help.

Ive got the pump and shaft out. Its like that balance shaft plate is seized in the pump

The bolt on the outside holding the gear for the Cam belt is in the end of the balance shaft, inside the pump is the gear that is driven. So the bolt in the end of the shaft has to come out to separate the oil pump body.
Are you at this stage?

No. Im at the prior stage. Remove the plate with the 6 ears that covers the bolt. Its stuck

Mitsubishi lists a special tool to unscrew this cap but mine is seized and won't turn out. I think the old rubber seal has it stuck.

Just take a little chisel or a flat head & hit it with a hammer the direction to loosen it

I know this is an old thread, but ... I am trying to replace the oil pump/balance shaft seal I figured this picture will help understand what I am doing. What can I use to hold the pulley, so I can replace the oil seal? My cordless impact would not remove it. Who has done this, and did you use something to hold the pulley? or do i just need a stronger impact gun? NOTE: I am replacing the seal with engine in truck, and I am not removing the front engine cover/oil pump.
Thanks, John
Edit: Manual says I'm working with the Left silent shaft seal, I guess I just need a stronger cordless impact gun. It say's 37-43 ft-lbs, so shouldn't be that tight.
