Running great all week. Parked for 30 mins ate a bite then left to a friends...on the way it was popping and skipping and bogging down and not wanting to go. I know it has a cracked exhaust man but will that cause that? Thats been cracked for a while now and gave no problem. cleaned EGRlast week. new plugs as well. idles fine and can rev up too in N and sounds ok, dont start till i put in gear and go. Any ideas what i might be dealing with. Any help is appreciated i gotta have my transportation fixed :(

Could be a plugged cat. If you don't have SMOG where you are then you don't need the cat.

Is it carb or FI? If it has a carb you might have bad jet valves. They make a kit to remove them. It's like 40 bucks. They will cause strange things to happen.

Most pumps are in the tank, and you cant see the wires because they are on top of the tank

Its a mechanical pump out of the side of the head next to the carb if its a 2.6, unless its been replaced with an electric one.

Replace the fuel filter... Then look at the pump.

Where is the pump on a 3.0 ? In the tank?

I think 3.0 is a V6 Fuel injected and the pump will be in the tank.

If the filter is new then it's the fuel pump. It's directly behind the distributer.

When was the last time the cap, rotor, and wires were replaced? Put the equivalent quality of factory parts or better in, and they will last forever.
Last spring my 2.6 was doing the same thing. Popping, skipping, hesitating, etc. that came and went- turned out to be spark plug wires. A couple of times in previous years, it was the dist cap/rotor. All cheap fixes.
343,000 miles and I still have the original fuel pump. Haven't changed the fuel filter in 100K easy. I can't even remember the last time I changed it. I really doubt that is causing the problem.
Pre-EFI, the pump is mounted on the intake side of the head behind the distributor.

i changed plugs. wires are almost new, cap and rotor are great. my guess is that its the fuel pump. one day it will pop and skip and stuff then the next day it runs like a champ. i have no clue whats going on. its done it twice in a month and thats it. weird stuff
