Steam removes tinted window material from windows, so maybe a hot steam iron set to High steam will free up stuff. If you scrape with a metal scraper you may get rust to form. Use maybe a plastic puddy paddle.

Try charcoal lighter fluid to dissolve the glue - or use 3m trim adhesive remover. Goo gone may also work, although it it really mostly charcoal lighter fluid. Not a good idea to scrape the underside of the roof - its a single wall and gouges underneath appear on the top of the roof.

I tried goo gone and wd40 but it didn't work. Its kinda hard to explain, but it's not sticky its so old that the fabric is almost like brittle it almost seems like it needs to be burnt off! I can post a pic if some one can tell me how to post pics on this site from an iPhone?

You could send pics to your online email address, then open email and copy images to desktop and post from there. Whalaa!
another way maybe is grab a belt sander, BZzzzzzZZzzzZZz! lol or a little more subtle sander could be used:grin:

Bucket of dry ice + gloves, hold the dry ice cube up to the sticky bit, freeze it, chip it off with the aforementioned hard plastic putty knife.
Or try a heat gun and melt it off but there's a risk it could drip and mess up your interior.
Dry ice method works great on removing old sound deadening panels on the floor, too.

You could try mineral spirits. Spray some on or dab it on with a sponge and let it soak in for a while. Keep putting a bit more on as it dries. It might soften up the adhesive. I know it works great for removing labels. After it has been soaking for a while try rubbing it with coarse steel wool. You might want to pop the seats out and throw a drop sheet on the floor. I don't think mineral spirits will stain anything but there is a smell to it.

Nail polish remover in a spritz bottle? Stuff works great on dried chewing gum.

acetone (nail polish remover) could work - be sure it doesn't land on any plastic in the interior or it will ruin it.

Well if you have it gutted and are getting it painted you could just sand it off as BradMph suggested but with a random orbit sander and forgo the hassle of chemicals, provided I suppose it's not in areas you can't get to with a sander. Are you replacing the headliner after painting?
